The County Administrative Board is a driving force for a sustainable society.
We work together with authorities, municipalities, businesses, and other actors focusing on Västra Götaland County and our 1.7 million inhabitants. The County Administrative Board has a broad operation and a very important role in several areas of society.
This includes the highly relevant challenges of regional growth, implementing the green transition, developing civil defense, and nurturing democracy.
The County Administrative Board is a regional government authority with about 1,000 friendly and competent employees. We operate in several locations in Västra Götaland but also across Sweden as we are responsible for the IT operations for all county administrative boards.
We are now looking for a conservation worker for the summer season
The Hornborga Lake Nature Reserve is approximately 4,100 hectares large and is considered one of Sweden's finest and most visited natural areas, especially during the migration season. We have up to 120,000 visitors who come to see the approximately 30,000 cranes that rest here on their way to their breeding grounds. Biodiversity is always the focus of management at Hornborga Lake, both in our care of natural values and the nature guidance we conduct through the nature center Hornborga Lake.
Job Description
This job is suitable for you who want to work practically with nature conservation outdoors. The Hornborga Lake Nature Reserve requires a lot of maintenance of land and outdoor facilities.
As a conservation worker at Hornborga Lake, you will be part of the team that creates and maintains the natural values that the reserve is meant to promote and preserve. The tasks are varied and follow the seasonal changes with outdoor work in all weather. Major tasks include mowing, clearing, and maintaining hiking trails in the nature reserve. During the summer, the work is dominated by wetland mowing carried out with tractors and various tools. Some carpentry work also occurs, for example, with boardwalks and bird towers.
Location: Broddetorp, Hornborga Lake.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Experience in practical nature conservation or other experience deemed equivalent by the County Administrative Board.
- Good ability to operate and drive a tractor with various tools.
- Driver's license B
- Chainsaw license B
- Brush cutter license RA
- Good physical condition
- Practical skills
Personal Qualities
You have an interest in working to develop and maintain the nature and outdoor values we have in the reserve. Since the work is performed both independently and in a smaller team, it is important that you enjoy working together with others while also being able to work independently on your tasks. You need to be resilient and flexible, as tasks may change at short notice.
It is important that you are safety-conscious and have good judgment. You are quality-conscious and place great importance on doing a good job and working towards the goals of the operation. You are creative and solution-focused, and if necessary, you can come up with ideas for solutions.
Meritorious
- Experience in similar work is highly valued.
- Education in practical nature conservation or landscape management.
- Knowledge of machine repairs.
- License for all-terrain vehicle.
- Knowledge of carpentry work.
- Knowledge of outdoor life and accessibility.
